Saint George Day in Catalonia

Next 23rd of April Catalan people will celebrate Saint George. We have celebrated this day since many years ago and it has become our particular Saint Valentine’s Day. Do you want to learn more about Saint George and how we celebrate it? Then go on reading.

Saint George was a venerated martyr saint. Saint George is celebrated as Saint Valentine’s Day: boys in love with a girl present her a rose to let her know that he loves her. The girl gives the boy a book. This is because of Saint George legend. It says that he rescued a princess from the dragon and killed it. And from the dragon's blood a rosebush came out. He took a rose and presented it to the princess.

The 23rd of April is an important day not only because it is Saint George day but also because another event took place: Shakespeare and Cervantes died on that day.

St George is not only celebrated in Catalonia Also, are celebrated in England, Aragon, Ethiopia, Georgia and other ones.
